What to Expect When You Visit Just Pull It for a Tooth Extraction

When having a tooth extraction, understanding the procedure in advance will help calm your nerves and hopefully prevent any delay in getting treatment.  Here at Just Pull It, we try to make you as comfortable as possible and take care of your toothache pain in a single visit so you can get back to your life.
Here's what to expect

Why your tooth may need to be removed

You have a toothache. The tooth is very painful and can make you feel awful. But what caused this to happen? There can be many reasons for tooth pain:
  • Tooth infection or severe decay
  • Gum disease
  • Trauma
  • Preparation for denture or partial
Regardless of the cause, toothache pain should not be ignored. Untreated tooth decay can cause other health problems and some can be very serious. The dental professionals at Just Pull It will help you with a single visit tooth extraction so you can avoid more serious problems and get back to your normal life.

The tooth extraction procedure

Simple extractions can be done in our dental clinic under local anesthesia. You shouldn’t have pain, but will be aware of what is happening.

Before we begin the extraction an evaluation of the jaw will be performed. A radiographic image will be taken showing the teeth and jaw bone.  Visually the teeth will be evaluated by the dentist and a discussion of the risk and benefits of removing the tooth.

After the evaluation, the Dentist will place a topical anesthetic which will begin to numb the area. The mouth area will be numb as well. Once your gums and mouth are numb, he will proceed with the extraction.

The tooth will be gently rocked side to side so that it can be gently removed from the socket. Occasionally the tooth is so badly damaged that the skin around the tooth needs to be moved to gain access to remove the remaining tooth and roots. Should this be necessary, sutures may be required.

Don't worry, with anesthetic blocking any pain you should be fairly comfortable and feel only some pressure during
the procedure. The whole procedure should only take a few minutes.

After the removal of the tooth the doctor will place a gauze pad in the area to help form a blood clot in the socket. This is important to help the gums heal and prevent post procedure bleeding. Once he has placed the gauze, you should be ready to go home. Pain management will be prescribed and a full list of aftercare instructions given. If any follow up care is needed, this will be discussed before you leave Just Pull It.

That's it! One visit and in most cases, our patients can return to normal activities in a couple of days!
